Costa Rica and Nicaragua
Day 1 Zurich - San Jose
Individual arrival at Zurich airport. Flight with Edelweiss Air to San Jose. Transfer to the hotel and accommodation at the hotel in San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica. (B)
Day 2 San Jose
Drive to the Dähler family pineapple farm and visit the impressive plantation. Learn more about the queen of fruits. Return to San Jose. (B, L, D)
Day 3: San Jose - Cañas
In the morning, visit a local cigar factory with a tour of the wood workshop and exciting explanations of this craft, from the production of high-quality cedar boxes to cigars. Afterwards, enjoy an aromatic cigar yourself. Drive to Cañas, from where you will start the next day. (B, L, D)
Day 4 Cañas
Today's excursion takes you to the Río Celeste in Tenorio National Park. The river is characterized by its characteristic turquoise color, borders several hot springs, and forms an imposing waterfall that you can admire after about a 1-hour hike. Afterward, you will learn all about the precious cocoa plant on a tour of the cocoa plantation. (B, L, D)
Day 5: Cañas - León
Continue to the border, complete border procedures, and take the bus to León, one of the oldest and most influential cities in Nicaragua. Enjoy your first night in Nicaragua. (B, L, D)
Day 6 León
On a walking tour of León, you'll see elegant Spanish colonial architecture and learn about the city's fascinating political history. Soon, you'll understand why the city is considered the historical, cultural, educational, and religious capital of Nicaragua. Afterward, there will be a stop at Flor de Caña, where the famous Nicaraguan rum is produced. In addition to a guided tour, there will also be a pleasant tasting. (B, L, D)
Day 7 León - Granada
Travel to Managua and tour the city, the capital of Nicaragua. The city is located on the southern shore of Lake Managua, where you will see the impressive cathedral and Plaza La Revolución. In the evening, the next highlight is a visit to the active Masaya Volcano, where glowing lava can be seen in the dark. Journey to Granada and accommodation. (B, L, D)
Day 8: Granada
In the morning, take a stroll through the charming colonial city of Granada. Afterwards, take a ride in the oldest and well-preserved mode of transportation: horse-drawn carriages. In the afternoon, enjoy a boat trip on Lake Nicaragua, where you can admire island life, diverse animals, and the beautiful landscape. (B, L, D)
Day 9: Granada
Drive to San Juan de Oriente and Catarina, which are among the seven most famous white cities of Nicaragua. The production of ceramics is showcased by the country's finest artisans and potters. Then, visit beautiful gardens and bamboo work. Fascinating view of Nicaragua's largest crater lake and the Apoyo Lagoon. (B, L, D)
Day 10 Granada - Monteverde
Farewell to Nicaragua and return to Costa Rica. On the way, visit a cougar sanctuary. Monteverde Nature Reserve is known for its cloud forest. (B, L, D)
Day 11 Monteverde
Today is dedicated to the fascinating cloud forest and its diversity. The Sky Walk consists of a series of trails and hanging bridges to provide smooth access to the flora and fauna of the treetops. Explore the rainforest first from the ground and then from the treetops. An impressive experience! (B, L, D)
Day 12 Monteverde - San Jose
Drive to San Jose airport. On the way, visit a traditional wood factory. Next, continue your journey to San Jose to catch your evening flight back to Switzerland with Edelweiss Air. (B, L)
Day 13 Zurich
Arrival at noon. Individual trip home.
